In-class Essay

The view of  America changes based on different ethnic groups because of the views that history has placed into their minds. Students around the world are taught their country's history in school. Gaining this knowledge can cause the formation of opinions. If in the past there was much conflict between a certain ethnic group and America, that ethnic group has a higher liklihood of having negative feelings towarads Americans, no matter how long ago the conflicts may have taken place. On the other hand, the opposite can be true also. A stronger positive bond can be formed due to history. For instance if an alliance was drawn between countries in the past, a positive relationship between the two ethnicities is likely to be carried on.

Communities are shaped by their history.  For example in the sixties the difference of living in the south and living in the north was a bit different. In the south, there was a lot more tension between African Americans and whites. Even though the civil rights act passed it didn’t mean people followed it. Discrimination and racism were severe. In the north everything was becoming urbanized and the civil rights act was put into action quicker and African Americans were being more accepted.   The south was against the civil rights act because in the past they lost in the civil war to keep slavery. Their community is shaped in a way that shows their past.
