Optimisim

Optimistic: hopefulness and confidence about the future or successful outcome of something; a tendency to take a favourable or hopeful view.  In the past weeks weve read many writtings and novels that express a great deal of optimisim.  In the book The Secret Life of Bees, it states "come on, don't mess up your time to live." and "Lilly Mellissa Owen, your jar is open”. I Lilly’s life she find hope even when her circumstances aren’t always the best. At times she is sad but she looks to her mother for hope and she looks to the bees for hope.  Anyone can bring himself or herself down by thinking of their failures or the stress or the place a situation they are in but if one takes their time to learn from their mistakes and look at their future and see that they can do good and that they can be somebody. In the short novel How it Feels to be Colored Me by Zora Neale Hurston she gives and expresses her optimism.  When Hurston finds herself in the real world, out of her all black community she realizes there is prejudice and racism. Hurston found hope in the future. She looked at her past and her ancestors and knew the struggle they went through. She saw that this was her opportunity and chance to make a difference and change the life of her and her people forever.  In the novel The Color of Water, Ruth, James’ mother looks for a brighter future. She looks at her own life and the way she was brought up and from that teaches her kids to look to the future. When her kids ask about her parents and her past she is hesitant to tell. She knows that her past wasn’t the greatest and that it doesn’t really matter what happened but knows that what is happening and what will happen is what matters. She sees the future for her children and sees the future for herself. She has an optimistic personality that will make them be a success.

            In my life I see that things are not always the way I want them and maybe expect more out of myself. The thing is looking at the future and realizing what it could be can give me hope. It can give anyone hope. One must try and put an effort to succeed.  In the world today people get stressed and dwell on the past but if you look to the future with an optimistic view one can succeed.
